Ismail Ahmed, a Somali immigrant and global money mover, said in 2016 that migration and homelessness persists when there is a wealth and quality of life differential.
This is why we are creating a complete support shelter circle in homes and shelters for both the poor and the rich, emphasising forgiveness within a broken system.
Authentic relationships based on "need” rely on exchange rather than any linear transaction. However, as current humanity stands with wealth differentials so large, more than ever we must rely on some linear monetary exchanges between wealthy and impoverished individuals. And structural transformation of the system must address the urgent needs of the 250 million people currently on the move globally, over a billion individuals needing shelter.
The program fosters kindness and solidarity. Another world is possible by sheltering in, and offering, host homes, hostels and churches - they are gift circles. A collective effort - a team of hosts and guests collaborating to create a supportive environment for activists and others in need of temporary shelter, while some of our incoming funds will subsidise longer term shelter.
The guide outlines procedures for both hosts and guests. We emphasise communication and privacy, building connections and solidarity.
